History & documents
This early Peugeot 203 was built in 1951 and belongs to the characterful first generation, recognisable by features such as the small rear window and the large sliding roof.
The car carries chassis number 1167443. The same number is visibly stamped on the engine block, so the car appears to retain its matching-numbers engine.
Over the years the Peugeot has been maintained mechanically with the aim of preserving its original character as far as possible. The interior was retrimmed in the past and finished in red with black piping.
The car is Dutch-registered and is offered as a particularly authentic, ready-to-use classic.
Maintenance
The Peugeot has been maintained over the years and attended to mechanically where needed. Recently and in the past, work has been carried out on the brakes and other wear and service parts, among other things.
Engine and drivetrain work as they should and the car drives as you would expect of an early Peugeot 203. The gearbox asks for an unhurried hand when changing from first to second gear.
The engine shows some oil sweating, in keeping with the age and use of the car.

Highlights
A Peugeot that does not try to hide its age.
This 203A stands out not for a concours restoration but for its particularly charming and authentic appearance. The black bodywork shows crazing and signs of use that have built up over many decades. The dashboard, the controls, various accessories, the engine bay and countless small details still have exactly the atmosphere that belongs to an early post-war Peugeot.
The combination of the early small rear window, the large sliding roof and the matching-numbers engine is special. The interior was professionally retrimmed in red in the past and makes a fine contrast with the black bodywork.
The Peugeot 203 is also one of the models on the 1000 Miglia eligibility list for historic cars. Entry with an individual car naturally remains subject to the required certification and acceptance by the organisers.
Not an over-restored museum piece, but a likeable, running and largely preserved French classic that invites you to use it.
